Spring Carving Classes

Our Spring Carving class for 2022 has been scheduled!

The Flickertail Woodcarvers Club is proud to enlist the services of Dennis C. Houle, nationally recognized artist, to conduct a woodcarving/cultural lesson/art class.

Date and Schedule of Services: Friday, May 6, 2022 through Sunday May 8, 2022. 10AM to 4 PM Fri, 10 AM to 4 PM Sat and 10 AM to 2 PM Sun.

Dennis will provide class instruction on carving several traditional items: horse dancing stick, gunstock war club, war club and quirt. Project will include cultural lessons along with the creation of 2 or 3 items per attendee. Attendees will complete their projects during the class. Wood cutouts, paint, brushes, beads, leather, horse hair, brads, etc… will be provided. Attendees should bring traditional carving tools, though carving is only a small part of this project. Attendees that have a special or memorable piece of wood are encouraged to bring it and transform it into an art piece. Saws, sanders, grinders and other electrical tools will also be provided to aid in the wood to art transformations. Class will be held for up to 12 participants. Funding from North Dakota Council on the Arts and the Dakota West Art Council Arts Council help to support this event.

Class will be open to 12 people max. Cost per participant will be $50. To register, please send payment and contact information (email, phone) to Dale Heglund at 701-318-6893, or dale.heglund@ndsu.edu
