Cross-stitching in Wood

For this project, you will be cross-stitching with a twist. Instead of using embroidery floss on fabric, you will be working with a wood background. Becky will provide standard blanks for the class, while teaching you how to make your own patterns with the same techniques.
Each blank comes pre-drilled to ensure everyone finishes their project. By the end of the first day, patterns should be completed, and glued to their backing board. The second day will concentrate on finishing the edges of your piece and trying your hand at making your own blank.
You will be provided with a starting blank, embroidery floss, needles, glue, sealer, and loaner clamps. If you have small spring clamps, feel free to bring your own if you wish to finish your embroidery later. Other blanks will be available for purchase. Special design requests will be accepted until mid-September (the earlier the better).
Class will be Saturday morning and Sunday morning from 8 AM to 12 PM.
More Class Information:
Your class fee includes 2 blanks (one small, one medium), and the embroidery floss and supplies to finish them. Other blanks will be available for purchase, ranging in size. Click on the images below:
Some patterns come with a color template. If it’s a specific sprite from a video game, or flower, it will come with a guide. Other designs such as hearts or butterflies will come with a blank chart that you can fill in yourself with a color guide.
You may request specific woods for your design on a limited basis. Woods with shorter fine grain work the best – Walnut, Maple, Birch, Alder, Cherry, Olive, etc. Rough grain such as Oak or Hickory split more in the drilling process. If you’re looking for a certain wood, but not sure it’ll work – just ask.
Becky will have loaner 1″ spring clamps on hand for the finishing. A limited number will be available for purchase at cost ($1 each).
