The 54th Annual Flickertail Woodcarvers Show was held October 12-13 at the Bismarck Public Schools Career Academy, with special classes held on the days just prior.
Barry Bowers Caricature Class: The class met 1 day prior to the show, and the two mornings of the show. Barry Bowers is from Great Bend Kansas, and joined us to instruct on his caricature carving techniques. Barry started carving in 1995 by taking a class that was taught by a friend at the local recreation center. His first real carving class was with Phil and Vicki Bishop. A CPA by day, he says carving is a way to use the other side of his brain. He is a member of the Golden Belt Wood Carvers and the Oklahoma City Wood Carving Club.
Derek Epping Whimsical Bark House class: Current president of the Red River Valley Woodcarvers, Derek joins us from Fargo, ND. He taught methods of carving in cottonwood bark, covering how to do windows, doors, ladders, and chimneys. His class was held the mornings before the show.
Becky Barnes Cross-Stitch in Wood class: This class included cross-stitching with a twist. Instead of working with fabric, Becky provided blanks of wood pre-drilled out with holes to accommodate embroidery floss. Her class was held the mornings before the show.
